Indian River Dike Road
The dike road goes for 10 miles alongside of the extreme northeast edge of the Indian River Lagoon. The road begins just below Oak Hill and comes out 1 mile above the Haulover Canal. It is a single lane dirt road, with many culverts under the road which connect an extensive wetlands area to the Indian River Lagoon.
Fish the culverts when there is any water movement present, and drive the road very slowly. If conditions are right you can sight fish for tailing reds, right from your car. The bottom is hard sand and water depth is 1 to 3 ft.
Do not enter the water on the marsh side of the road! There you will encounter mud, deep holes, and many alligators.
