A salt water fly pattern primarily targeting redfish on both of Florida's coasts.

Materials:
Hook: Mustad 3407
Thread: Brown 3/0
Eyes: Mini dumbbell
Wing: Red squirrel tail
Head: Deer hair natural
Crystal flash: Copper or gold

1  Lay down a thread base starting three hook eye diameters back from the eye of the hook to the front of the hook point.  Lay in the eyes in front of the thread wrap using a figure eight wrap.
2.  Take a 1/8” thick clump of squirrel tail and tie it in so that the points of the hair are 1-1/2 hook gap widths beyond the bend of the hook. Tie in a couple of half hitches to secure the thread. Put a couple of drops of head cement on the thread.

3.  Turn the hook upside down in the vise. Tie in three or four strands of crystal flash behind the eyes. Trim the crystal flash so that it is ¼ to ½ inches behind the tail.

Tie in two clumps of squirrel tail on top of the crystal flash and trim them to the same length as the squirrel tail in Step 2.

4.  Take a ¼ inch clump of deer hair, comb out the under hair and put in a hair stacker tips up. Remove from stacker and trim to 3/4 inch discarding the tips. Tie the clump in and flare. Pull the hair back and take three or four wraps of thread between the eyes and the hair. Build up the head and whip finish.

5.  Trim deer hair.
6.  Coat the head with head cement.
