Normally fish this fly in moving water, like cuts between islands on the incoming tide. When in calm water like around weed beds, fish with a series short strips. Always pre-soak to reduce buoyancy.

1. Wrap the 6/0 thread on the hook from behind the hook point to the beginning of the bend.
2. Tie in a small bundle of kip tail, 1/2 inch in length, curving slightly downwards towards the hook point.
3. Tie in the neck tails, one inch beyond the hook , splayed outwards, curving downward.
| |
4. Tie in four strands of crystal flash, 1-1/4 inches long, outside the feathers.
5. Tie in the short ice chenille and completely overwrap the jam know which was created. Whip finish and glue.
6. Switch over to the heavy thread. Tie in at the hook eye and attach the lead eyes.
7. Tie in the chenille just behind the lead eye and overwrap (figure eight) the lead eye. Build the head, whip finish and glue.
8. Spinning the body can be done in one or two bunches. The body should be full, but not packed like a bass bug. Tie in the heavy thread just forward of the ice chenille. Stack the ends on the first clump of hair. the hair should flair just beyond the hook.
9. Trimming takes some practice. Think of the shape as somewhere between a float sided marble and a wedge pyramid. The trimmed hair length should extend slightly past the hook point -- this should make it nearly weedless. Don't trim all of the buggy quality out.
