Tri-County Fly Fishers

Tyer: Joe Manjoine

The Pus Bug is a small sinking fly targeting bass, bluegill and crappie. Best fished by letting it have time to slowly sink after hitting the water and then retrieved slowly.
Materials:
Hook: 12-14 thin wire straight eye.
Thread: Yellow 3/0.
Tail: Yellow Marabou.
Flash: Red flashabou.
Under body: Small yellow chenille.
Outer body: Pearl rope braid.
Hackle: Yellow saddle hackle.
Eyes: Small bead chain silver or black.
1. Lay down a thread base from two hook eye diameters behind the eye to the hook barb. Tie in the Marabou tail.
2. Tie in the red flashabou in front of the tail so that it extends about 3 inches beyond the end of the hook.
3. Tie in the bead chain eyes about four hook eye diameters from the eye.
4. Tie in the chenille from in front of the tail to 1 hook eye diameter from the eye. Wrap the pearl braid from the base of the tail to behind the eyes.
5. Whip finish and bring the thread back to the base of the tail tie in the hackle and palmer it forward to the eyes. Tie it off and bring the thread forward and build up the head with the thread and whip finish.
